If you think this sounds like a song from 2005, there is good reason. For the lead single to their debut album, Rixton mixed together the chorus from Rob Thomas' "Lonely No More" with their own verses and instrumentation. The end result is fascinating, although their lifting of Rob Thomas' song is blatant, "Me and My Broken Heart" sounds completely original. Clearly the work of a band that's grown up on Maroon 5 and Michael Buble, Rixton bring an outdated song into the present. There's a lot of technical aspects that we can ruminate upon, but we'll save that for our senior thesis. After all, this song is too fun to waste it thinking about pop music theory.
