Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" - Chromatik's Tune of the Day

Few opening lyrics sound as bleak as “Hello Darkness, my old friend,” which sounds as if Paul Simon is literally summoning thick black clouds to come near him. A lot of discussion around this song stems from the fact that Simon wrote it shortly after JFK’s assassination, which perhaps helps describe the song’s eerie stillness. The song was originally meant to be even quieter, but their producer Tom Wilson snuck in a pretty killer electric guitar line in the background before its release.
