Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" - Chromatik's Tune of the Day

It's been nearly eight years since Amy Winehouse released her breakthrough album, Back to Black, but the songs' effect on us has been so long-lasting that it's weird to think how little music she actually released. Although not nearly as fun as "Rehab" or as somber as "You Know I'm No Good", "Back to Black" borrows from all the best elements of Winehouse's songs. The instrumentation carries a touch of playfulness with a bouncing orchestra, but the lyrical content in the song is dark and haunting. Winehouse had a knack for communicating serious grief without sounding indulgent or too serious, which is probably what made her music so affecting.
